Another Bleached Out Image Card

When I created my first Bleached Out Image Technique card I stamped a few images on other colours of cardstock. Here is one I did on light blue. For this card, I heat embossed the image with black embossing powder instead of clear, which gives you a more defined outline for your image.

I created this birthday card for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday #192 challenge. I used the October sketch at Crafts Meow.

Supplies-
Paper - Pemberly (CTMH), Black CS (SU), Purple and blue CS (Bazzill)
Stamps - Hydrangea, Tag Lines (Flourishes)

Timeless Tuesday #190

This week's Timeless Tuesday challenge at Flourishes is to create a card or project with a yummy treat as the focal point. I don't have a Flourishes stamp depicting a treat so I thought I would create a Wedding Favour Box that could hold a treat and decorated it using Flourishes stamps. The box was cut using the new Cricut cartridge called Artiste from CTMH. I don't often make 3D items, but this was fun and easy to make.

After cutting out the box I randomly stamped it with 'Mr & Mrs' from the stamp set 'Happily Ever After'. I inked the two halves of the flower with Desert Sand. I traced the two flower halves onto printed paper to create the full flower which I adhered to the top, adding tulle, a brad and a tag.

Supplies -
Paper - Roxy, White Daisy CS (CTMH), Black CS (Bazzill)
Stamps - Happily Ever After, Botanical Bookplates Vol 2 (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Desert Sand (CTMH)
Accessories - Rhinestone Designer Brad, black tulle (CTMH)
Other - Fancy Framed Tags Two (Spellbinders), Cricut Artiste (CTMH)

Inside and Out Challenge - Bleach Technique

It's release week at Flourishes and time for noon time challenges. Wednesday brought the 'Inside and Out' challenge - deck out the inside as well as the outside of your card.

For this card I decided to try the Bleached Out Image technique found at Split Coast Stampers.

I started out by testing scraps of cardstock to see what the bleach would do. Different colours and different brands will give you different results. I liked the effect with this grey Bazzill cardstock. I stamped my image with Vesrsa Mark embossing ink and heat embossed with clear detail embossing powder. Place a small amount of regular household bleach in a glass container. With a fine paintbrush apply bleach to the image - be careful not to soak the paper with too much bleach as it will bleed beyond the edge of your image. After the bleach has dried colour as desired with markers.

For the tag I lightly applied bleach to the center of it with an almost dry paint brush to get a soft fading in the center.

Supplies - Standard A2 size
Paper - DP - Avonlea, White Daisy CS (CTMH), Light & Dk grey CS (Bazzill)
Stamps - Magnolias, Calla Lilies (Flourishes), Tender Tags (CTMH)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Versa Mark (Tsukineko), Grey Wool (CTMH), Copics - R81, R83, Y11, G21, G94, YG93
Accessories - Rhinestone bling (Want2Scrap), button, pink waxy flax, bitty pearls (CTMH), ribbon (May Arts), clear embossing powder
Other - Labels 4 Sm, Decorative Labels 8, Classic Tag (Spellbinders), bleach, sewing machine, paint brush

Think Pink Challenge

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all my fellow Canadians, hope you are enjoying your long weekend. My mother-in-law has been in the hospital since the end of August, so my free time has been taken up with visiting her every day and I haven't spent much time in my craft room. I wanted to take part in Flourishes 'Think Pink' challenge so I put together this card yesterday. I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch #261 and got my colour inspiration from Color Q challenge #157.

For my background I used the Faux Letterpress technique. I brayered ink onto one side of an embossing folder before embossing my cardstock. I believe you can also apply the ink directly to the folder with your ink pad.

Supplies - Standard A2 size
Paper - Pink CS (SU), Black CS (Bazzill), White Daisy CS (CTMH)
Stamp - Magnolias (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Cotton Candy (CTMH)
Accessories - Striped ribbon, Grey Rosettes, Bitty Sparkles (CTMH), 1/2" black seam binding (May Arts), Pink rose, Rhinestone flourish (Prima)
Other - Exquisite Circles, Std. Circles Sm (Spellbinders), Embossing folder (Provocraft), Brayer, 3D foam

2-4-6-8-Help Flourishes Celebrate - A Banner Day Challenge

The final 2-4-6-8 challenge at Flourishes is 'A Banner Day Challenge'. Use a banner or pennant embellishment on your card. I needed a masculine birthday card so I chose the stamp set 'Bike Ride' for my card today, love this set. I also realized that I am severely lacking in more masculine images for my cards, will have to correct that. I used Sweet Sunday Sketch #166 found here.

Paper - DP - Victory, Lucky (CTMH), Navy CS (Bazzill), Indian Corn Blue CS (CTMH), Neena Classic Crest Solar White (for image)

2-4-6-8-Help Flourishes Celebrate - Celebrate Colour Challenge

For the Celebrate Colour Challenge at Flourishes I decided to make a one layer bridal shower card. I don't often make single layer cards, not sure why, they can work up pretty quickly. I used the sketch 'Freshly Made Sketches #49'.

I masked off a 1-1/4" strip across my card using post-it notes. I then sponged on ink in the four colours of this challenge. Stamped the umbrella images in Versa Mark and heat embossed with white embossing powder. A few score lines and a bit of baker's twine and it's done.

Supplies - Card size is A2

Paper - White Daisy CS (CTMH)
Stamps - April Showers, Tag Lines (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Blush, Sorbet, Sweet Leaf and Crystal Blue ink (CTMH), Versa Mark & White embossing powder
Accessories - Baker's Twine (May Arts), Bitty Bud (CTMH)

Stamping on Canvas

Wednesday's Noon Time Challenge at Flourishes was to create a card with texture and Thursday's challenge at CASE Study was to think "Outside of the Box", or in other words try something new. I have been wanting to try stamping and colouring on canvas for a while so I thought that would be perfect to satisfy both of these challenges. I purchased some canvas from my local fabric store, stamped one of my all time favourite images from 'Hydrangea' using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured it in with copics. After fraying the edges I sewed the piece of canvas to cardstock to give it some stability. I added more texture with some crocheted ribbon, seam binding ribbon, sewing and an embossed piece of cardstock that I tucked behind the canvas image.

Tip - Just a note about working with canvas. I wanted my final piece to be square with frayed edges. If you have worked with fabric before you know that sometimes the warp and weft of the fabric isn't always straight. So, before you stamp your image take the opposite diagonal corners of your fabric and pull on your fabric along the diagonal (repeat with opposite corners) until the threads run straight up and down and across. Hope that makes sense.

Had a tough time getting a good picture today, very overcast. This card is so pretty in real life.

Supplies - 5 1/2" x 5 1/2"

Paper - Green print - Avonlea, Avonlea Off White CS (CTMH), Yellow stripe (scrap bin), Green CS (Bazzill), canvas (fabric store)
Stamps - Hydrangea, Botanical Bookplates Vol. 2 (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics - B91, B97, BG75, E31, E44, YG93, YG95, YG97, Indian Corn Blue reinker (CTMH)
Accessories - Round Studs (CTMH), Antique brad (SU), crochet lace (Kaiserkraft), 1/2" seam binding (MayArts)
Other - Labels 4 (Spellbinders). embossing folder (Provocraft), sewing thread, 3D foam

Timeless Tuesday #181

It's release week at Flourishes and with it comes lots of opportunities to win some of their new stamp sets. Yesterday's Timeless Tuesday challenge is a sketch challenge. Here is my take on it using Flourishes 'Botanical Bookplates Vol 2'. This is my first time using this set, just love the pansies. When I was young I remember all of the different coloured pansies my father grew in his greenhouse. They are such a happy little flower with an almost unlimited range of colours. I chose to colour blue pansies today, one of my favourite.

Timeless Tuesday #180 - CASE a DT

Good morning everyone. Yesterday I finally spent some time in my craft room and was able to create a card for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge . This week's challenge is to CASE a card in the Design Team gallery. This was a difficult challenge in that there are so many beautiful cards to choose from it was hard to select just one. I finally decided on ***this beautiful card*** by Dawn Burnworth.

Here is my card

I love the vintage feel of Dawn's card. My card ended up with a slightly different feel than the one I had pictured in my head, but I do love how it turned out. I stamped the beautiful hydrangea image with black Staz On on regular cardstock and coloured it in lightly with my water brush. I used Rangers Antique linen for the stems and leaves and a very light touch on the outsides of the blossoms. Then I touched the center of each blossom with Pansy Purple again using my water brush.

Supplies - card size 5 1/2" x 5 1/2"

Paper - DP- First Edition, Black CS (SU), Colonial White CS (CTMH)
Stamps - Hydrangea (Flourishes), Dreams Come True (CTMH)
Ink - Jet Black Staz On (Tsukineko), Antique Linen (Ranger), Pansy Purple (CTMH)
Accessories - 1 1/2" Black silk ribbon (May Arts), B&W check ribbon, bitty opaques, Heirloom Assortment (CTMH), paper doily
Other - Labels Two (Spellbinders), Water brush (CTMH)

The Beauty of Winged Things - Paint Resist

This month's 'Bring Back Beautiful' challenge at Flourishes is The Beauty of Winged Things. For my card I used the stamp set Butterfly Blossoms and a paint resist technique. I followed the instructions given on an online card class found here, however there are a few You Tube videos out there that are similar.

I didn't have a large background stamp for the paint resist so instead I brayered pearlized acrylic paint onto one side of an embossing folder and stamped this onto a piece of white Neena cardstock. Be sure to wash the paint from your brayer and embossing folder right away.

Supplies -
Paper - Neena Classic Crest White, White Daisy, Topiary & Moonstruck CS (CTMH)
Stamps - Butterfly Blossoms (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Versafine Onyx Black (Tsukineko), Moonstruck, New England Ivy, Watermelon & Gypsy (CTMH), Pearlized Acrylic paint (CTMH), White Gelly Roll pen. clear embossing powder
Accessories - 3/8" organdy ribbon, clear sparkles (CTMH), Bling Borders (Want2Scrap)
Other - embossing folder (Crafts Too), Fancy Tags Two (Spellbinders), brayer, wire, 3D foam

Just A Note - Triple Play Challenge

Thursday's Noon Time Challenge for release week at Flourishes is 'Triple Play' - simply use three of something on your card. For my card I used the beautiful stamp set 'On The Porch' - love this wicker chair image in the set. I used three pearls on my card.

I used this sketch from the Craft's Meow

Supplies -

Paper - Little Darlings DP (Graphic 45), Desert Sand CS (CTMH), Neena Classic Crest Solar White (for image)
Stamps - Tag Lines, On The Porch (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Desert Sand (CTMH), Copics - W00, W03, E08, E13, E15, E42, E44, E47, E50, E53, R14, R27, R59, YG11, YG13, Yg17, G94, BG10, B00, BG02

Other - Large & Small Classic Circles (Spellbinders)

Bold & Beautiful Poppies

Wednesday's Noon Time Challenge for Flourishes release week is 'Bold & Beautiful' ie. use a colour that is bold and beautiful. I love the colour orange and I knew that the stamp set Poppy Patch would be perfect for showcasing that colour. I paired the image with some designer paper from CTMH that featured a bright and bold shade of blue and of green that complemented the colours of the poppies.

I created a card a couple of months ago using this stamp set and the same papers. In the end I was unhappy with the card because the image wasn't balanced and I hadn't stamped any leaves, leaving the skinny stems just hanging in mid air. I tried shading the image with a blue-green copic (after the card was put together), but hated the card even more after that. So, I took off the ribbon and embellishments and set them aside to try again later. Today seemed to be a good opportunity. I stamped the image with leaves this time and centered it better on the cardstock. I am still wary of shading around images (I usually hate the results) so as you can see I have left this one unshaded. The ribbon grounds the image somewhat. If any of you talented women out there can give me some hints to help with shading they would be much appreciated.

Supplies - All product CTMH except where noted

Paper - Dotty For You, Neena Classic Crest Solar White (for image)
Stamps - Poppy Patch (Flourishes), Enjoy Every Moment

It's a Boy!

Yesterday's Noon Time Challenge at Flourishes was to create art using a Letter(s) as the main focus. I created this baby boy card using a chipboard letter and some hand made fairy tale roses (you can see my tutorial on how to make these flowers here).

(Even though I have this program set to center my picture, for some reason it keeps putting them on the Left, anyone know how to fix this?)

Just for You from the Porch

I am so excited to make a card using one of the images from the stamp set 'On The Porch' which was a new release last month at Flourishes. I am especially happy because it was a set that I won! I love their beautiful images which are great for colouring and they stamp perfectly.

Yesterday's Noon Time Challenge for the July release was to create a card with part of it 'popped up'. I popped the whole image on this card with foam tape (it's hard to see in the photo). I used this week's sketch 'rs#15' at 'retrosketches'. I also tried to speed things up at bit by trying to make quick decisions re: sketch, papers, embellishments. This was a real challenge for me since every step along the way to making a card usually takes me an age. I'm not 100% happy with this card but that's OK.

Supplies:

Paper - Beau Chateau (SU), Neena Classic Crest Solar White (for image), White and gold CS (Bazzill)
Stamps - On the Porch (Flourishes), Say it With Style (Waltzing Mouse)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics
Accessories - 1 1/2" silk ribbon (May Arts), sparkle flourishes (CTMH)
Other - Labels Eight (Spellbinders), Bow Easy, 3D foam tape

A Card For Dad

It's new release week at Flourishes so I thought I would try and play along with some of their challenges. Yesterday's Timeless Tuesday challenge #173 was to create something for a Dad. I don't have any Flourishes sets with masculine images so I had to make do with a sentiment from the 'With Gratitude' set. I also didn't have the right size chipboard letters, so I made my own by layering letters cut out on the cricut. I wanted to do 5 - 6 layers, but ended up with only 4 because I only had a very small piece the paper left that I wanted to use, but I think they worked. I do like how this card turned out.

I used the Mojo Monday sketch #245 and also entered City Crafter Challenge #113 - Buttons, Buttons...

Supplies: Card size is 4 3/4" x 6 1/2" - All Supplies CTMH except where noted

Paper - Cruisin' DP, Grey Wool, White Daisy, Juniper, Black CS, Red CS (Bazzill)
Stamps - With Gratitude (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Grey Wool
Accessories - Buttons, Black Hemp, Black ribbon
Other - Cricut Art Philosophy, Without a Lock Embossing folder (Couture Creations), 3D Foam

Gimme Ten!

The challenge posted at Flourishes' blog today is to create a card in 10 minutes. In my world that would be considered a 'miracle'. This challenge really intrigued me because I usually can't get anything done in ten minutes, but I sure would like to speed things up a bit. So, I picked a paper pack and a couple of stamp sets, started the clock and this is what I came up with. The card actually took me closer to 15 minutes to complete, but I have to say I really surprised myself.

I am also entering this card in Julie Koerber's 5th Anniversary challenge at Out To Impress.

Supplies: Card size is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

Paper - Mocha Morning (SU), Black CS (SU), Colonial White CS (CTMH)
Stamps - Butterfly Blossoms (Flourishes), Gratitude (Flourishes)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black

Magnolia Wedding/Anniversary Card

Good Morning everyone. Hope you had a good weekend and to our neighbours to the south - have a great Memorial Day holiday. I recently purchased some new stamp sets and Spellbinders and have been anxious to start using them. This weekend I created this Anniversary card - although it would work equally as well as a Wedding card using my new stamp set from Flourishes called 'Magnolias'. Love this beautiful set. I didn't have the right paper in a cream colour for colouring with Copics, but managed with what I had. Didn't turn out too bad, the paper just didn't blend that well. The Timeless Tuesday challenge at Flourishes was to create anything with flowers (that was easy) and I used the Week 5 Verve skectch. I also entered Frosted Designs 'Fabulous Friday' challenge which this week is Weddings.
Supplies: Card size is 6 1/2" x 4 3/4" Paper - Mocha Morninng (SU), Crumb Cake CS (SU), Colonial White CS (CTMH) Stamps - Magnolias (Flourishes), Birthday Sentiments (Just Rite), Say It In Style (Waltzing Mouse) Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics - E0000, E40, E42, E44, Y21, Y35, YG93, YG95, YG97, W00, W3 Accessories - Mocha Opaques (CTMH), 1 1/2" silk ribbon (May Arts) Other - Floral Ovals, Classic Ovals Large, Labels 10 (Spellbinders), 3D Foam

Random Stamping on Kraft

The other day Ally Cope posted a tutorial on Flourishes blog on how to incorporate Kraft paper onto a layout page - 'Let's Get Krafty'. I loved it so much I decided to give it a try and created a card with it. Basically, you random stamp on Kraft paper with Memento ink, making sure not to leave large open spaces and then colour in around the stamped images with a Copic marker, I used Black. To help avoid large open spaces, I stamped the smaller flower on scrap, cut them out and used them to help space where I placed the large flower. Seemed to work. I love the look and versatility of this technique.
I used this week's sketch at Clean & Simple #191 and also entered this week's challenge 'Beautiful Butterflies' at Tuesday Alchemy Challenge blog.
Supplies: Card size is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" - All supplies CTMH except where noted Paper - Kraft, Colonial White, Black cardstock Stamps - Card Word Puzzle, Tage Lines (Flourishes) Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Black Copic Accessories - Licorice Pearl Opaques Other - Beautifu Wings Embosslit (SU)
