Tulip Glory - Make It Monday #246 - Faux Brush Lettering

The Make It Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink this week is brought to you by the wonderfully talented Amy Sheffer, I have been a huge fan of her work for years. This week she has a tutorial on creating the look of Brush Lettering with sentiment stamps - check out her video here. I used one of the beautiful layered images from Tulip Time and a sentiment from Birthday Cheer. I was inspired by this beautiful card by Marika.

I masked the large three tulip image and stamped only one of the blooms and then coloured over the stamping with coloured pencils. The stem is from Meadow Greens, and I masked one of the leaf images from Tulip Time. I stamped the sentiment in a medium grey tone. I tried using a brush and ink and also copics to get the brushed look effect but the lines of this sentiment were too fine and I just made a mess, so I settled on adding the darker highlight with a coloured pencil. I added some shading to ground the image and raindrops to finish it off. I kept wanting to do something else to this card, but couldn't come up with anything so decided to just leave it alone.

Supplies:
Stamps - Tulip Time, Meadow Greens, Birthday Cheer (PTI)
Paper - Stampers Select White CS (PTI)
Ink - Grey Wool, Petal, Gypsy, Pansy Purple, Pear (CTMH), Prismacolor Pencils - Cool Grey (70%, 50%, 20%), Violet, Parma Violet, Apple Green, Dk Green, White
Other - Raindrops (PTI)

Papertrey Ink 9th Anniversary - Colour Pop Fortune Teller Challenge

Good Morning! and Happy Valentine's Day. I have another card for one of Papertrey Ink's 9th Anniversary challenges - to use a Fortune Teller to decide your colour scheme. This was a fun challenge, haven't used one of those little paper games since I was a child. I chose to use two sets of colours - with the numbers 3 and 3, I got Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest and Pure Poppy, when I used 2 and 3, I got Simply Chartreuse and Orange Zest and Pure Poppy again. This colour combo said flowers to me, so this is what I came up with. I did not have Simply Chartreuse ink so used an ink from my stash that was the closest I could get to it.

I ended up having to add a little bit of blue to my background since when I was doing my ink smooshing with green I wasn't careful enough and you could see the lines created by my ink pad. The blue ink didn't cover it but at least it is not as noticable. I stamped the images with Mini Blooms and added a bit of colour with Prismacolour pencils.

Supplies:
Stamps - Mini Blooms, Stylish Sentiments: Birthday (PTI)
Dies - Double Ended Banners, Mini Blooms (PTI), Stitched Rectangles (Lil Inkers)
Paper - Stampers Select White (PTI)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Tulip, Orange, Sunflower, Sky (CTMH), Prismacolour pencils

This challenge is all about using stick pins, machine stitching or stamped stitches on your project. Melissa, Amy and Heather offer some great tips in their videos - check them out here.  I chose to use a decorative pin for my project and while I had my patterned papers out, decided to add some of those as well.

I also used Nichole's layout from the pattern challenge.

Supplies:
Stamps - Stylish Sentiments: Birthday (PTI)
Paper - DP - Teresa Collins, Stampers Select White CS (PTI)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
Other - seam binding, stick pin, beads

Papertrey Ink SAF 2015 - Mix & Match Challenge

Betsy Veldman and Dawn McVey offer some great tips on matching patterned papers and colours in this segment of SAF 2015. I chose to work with patterned papers for this challenge. I realized I don't use a lot of patterned paper on my cards so this was a nice change for me.

I used four different papers on this card. I kept the design simple and let the papers do their thing.

Supplies:
Stamps - Thank  You Kindly (PTI)
Paper - Sycamore Street DP (SU), Stampers Select White CS (PTI)
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
Other - bakers twine

Doodling With Stamps

The Make It Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink this week is to doodle on your stamping. You can watch Ashley's great video here.  I have come to the conclusion that I am the wrong personality type for this technique - colour outside of the lines and imperfect lines, yikes! After a few false starts I finally came up with a card I felt I could post.

I stamped the images from Pretty Petals in distress inks (I have limited colours) onto water colour paper and then added some more colour using a water brush. I then doodled with a Copic Liner. I am not happy with the sketchy lines that I added around the outside, but I was not starting over again so this is it.

I tried this technique with Polka Dot basics and was actually fairly pleased with with how it was turning out, but ended up going with the flowers instead. Maybe some day I'll go back to the polka dots.

Supplies:
Stamps - Pretty Petals, Mini Blooms (PTI)
Paper - watercolour paper, Stampers Select White (PTI), Sorbet CS (CTMH)
Ink - Tattered Rose, Antique Linen, Peeled Paint Distress Inks (Ranger),Versafine Onyx Black, Copic Liner 0.1
Other - Water pen

Coverplate Stencil Anniversary Wishes

Good Morning! It is freezing here today, so a good day to stay inside and craft. I have a card for the   Papertrey Ink Make It Monday challenge. This week we are asked to use a coverplate die to create a stencil and then to use that stencil and embossing paste on your card - you can see Laurie's video here.

I really didn't have a plan when I started this card. I made a couple attempts with dyed paste that I wasn't happy with then I decided to try adding glitter to my embossing paste (I actually used modelling paste - don't know if there is much difference between the two). I added fine gold glitter first and quickly realized I wouldn't get much sparkle with it, so I added some coarse gold glitter as well and am quite happy with the result. I needed a 50th Anniversary card, so this turned out perfectly. It's hard to see in the picture, but the glitter does sparkle in real life.

Supplies:
Stamps - Wet Paint (PTI)
Coverplate - Vertical Chevron (PTI)
Paper - Stampers Select White CS (PTI), Gold Foil CS (DCWV), Vellum
Ink - VersaMark, Balck EP, modeling paste
Other - fine and coarse gold glitter, gold thread

Papertrey Ink 8th Anniversary - Heavy Metal

The fun is still going on at Papertrey Ink's 8th Anniversary celebration. If you haven't checked it out already you should. Some great new products and lots of contests and prizes. Today's challenge is to use only metallics and neutrals on your project. I guess I went a little heavy on the metallics today.

I created my own large dot impression plate using a circle die, chipboard coasters and some cardboard for backing (see pic below). Some die cutting in silver and copper foil and a heat embossed sentiment and your done.

As you can see I drew a grid to help in placing my circles onto my backer. Unfortunately I miscalculated where to draw my lines and I ended up using only the horizontal lines for placement and just eyed up the vertical spacing.

Supplies:
Stamps - Stylish Sentiments: Birthday (PTI)
Dies - Spiral Notebook (PTI), bow (Lil Inkers), Classic Circles (Spellbinders)
Paper - Stampers Select White (PTI), silver and copper foil CS (DCWV)
Ink - VersaMark, Black EP

PTI is releasing a new line of products designed by Heather Nichols for pocket scrapbooking. The challenge today is to create a 3" x 4" Artist Trading card that could be used on a scrapbooking page or a card. I started out trying to be artsy with this card and had a number of failed attempts - this challenge should have been easy, but I always manage to make things harder than they are. For this first card I used my new Tim Holtz stencil and some gesso that I tinted grey.

Papertrey Ink 7th Anniversary Fun - Timed Challenge

Welcome PTI's first ever Timer Challenge, in honor of the *time travel* theme for Stamp-a-faire this year. You are encouraged to grab a timer and get creative!
  • You have 7 minutes to grab 7 supplies to use on your card.  This needs to include your ink, paper and stamps too, so maybe you should be sure to grab the basics first and go from there!  (You do not need to count adhesive as one of your limited supplies.)
  • Then create a quick card in 17 minutes or less using the supplies you selected!
I'm not very good with timed challenges can be a struggle for me, but they are a lot of fun. For this one I was thrown off by the fact that I could not find my new butterfly dies which I had planned to use and had to switch gears. I ended up using another die that I hadn't planned on so was unable to add any bling to this card (oh well, I can always add it later). So here is my attempt - took me 15 minutes to put together, which is somewhat of a record for me.

My seven supplies:
1. Rustic White cardstock (PTI)
2. Miss Nelly red designer paper (Kaiserkraft)
3. Summer Stories black designer paper (Teresa Collins)
4. Heart dies (PTI)
5. Heart Border die (PTI)
6. Live Love Life Stamp set (PTI)
7. Memento Tuxedo Black ink

Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop - Pretty In Pink x 3

For my second attempt at this month's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop I decided to use my Rainbow Stripes die. I used this die to cut three different patterned papers and by mixing them up I was able to create three different cards fairly quickly. My mother needs a lot of birthday cards to send to her great grandchildren, so I decided to make these fairly flat for mailing.

On the first card I separated the stripes slightly and added a sentiment using one of the Birthday Trio dies and the Heart Border die. I heat embossed 'It's Your' with silver EP and cut two more heart borders out of the more solid pink print. I glued these behind the white heart border, one slightly higher and one slightly lower giving me a pink border around each of the hearts.

The second card doesn't really need much in the way of explanation. I cut out a fourth set of stripes from black cardstock and used the two outer stripes to give me a fine black border.

For my third card I replaced the center stripe with a stamped sentiment - the word birthday is heat embossed in silver -  and added the designer paper outside of the stripes. I die cut the smallest star from Seeing Stars and heat embossed it with silver EP.

Supplies:
Stamps - Stylish Sentiments: Birthday (PTI)
Paper - Miss Nelly (Kaiserkraft), white & black CS
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Versa Mark, silver EP
Dies - By the Numbers, Rainbow Stripes, Seeing Stars, Birthday Trio, Heart Border (PTI)
Other - pink glitter gems, sequins, silver cord, button, 3D foam
