Papertrey Ink Blog Hop - Pretty In Pink x 3 Again

I put all three cards using my Rainbow Stripes die on the same blog post. I didn't know that you couldn't link up multiple times so I am posting my third card here.

Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop - Pretty In Pink x 3

For my second attempt at this month's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop I decided to use my Rainbow Stripes die. I used this die to cut three different patterned papers and by mixing them up I was able to create three different cards fairly quickly. My mother needs a lot of birthday cards to send to her great grandchildren, so I decided to make these fairly flat for mailing.

 

On the first card I separated the stripes slightly and added a sentiment using one of the Birthday Trio dies and the Heart Border die. I heat embossed 'It's Your' with silver EP and cut two more heart borders out of the more solid pink print. I glued these behind the white heart border, one slightly higher and one slightly lower giving me a pink border around each of the hearts.

The second card doesn't really need much in the way of explanation. I cut out a fourth set of stripes from black cardstock and used the two outer stripes to give me a fine black border. 

For my third card I replaced the center stripe with a stamped sentiment - the word birthday is heat embossed in silver -  and added the designer paper outside of the stripes. I die cut the smallest star from Seeing Stars and heat embossed it with silver EP.

Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop - Pretty In Pink Birthday

The January Papertrey Ink Blog Hop is all about 'pink' - use the colour pink only or paired with neutrals. The hardest part about this challenge was narrowing down the many possibilities.  I used the current sketch #91 at the Cardabilities challenge blog.

 

For this card I used some pink prints from Teresa Collins' Summer Stories collection and a number of PTI dies and stamp sets. I stamped the background piece with some sentiments from Movers & Shakers, splattered some pink re-inker and stitched around the outside edge. I then layered the other die cuts and the sentiment stamped on vellum.

Baby Boy Congrats!

It's release week at Flourishes and their release challenge this month is to create a shaped card - FTTC253. I chose to make a baby gift card using one of my new stamps sets 'Lots of Thoughts'. I used the colours from this week's Colour Throwdown challenge #274 .

Make It Monday #147 - Multi-Layer Images from a Single Stamp

The MIM challenge at Papertrey Ink this week is to use a single stamp to create a multi-layer image.  I had only one PTI stamp set that would work with this challenge. I used the small clock face from Hands of Time to create a spinner for my birthday card.

I started with a card front 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Using some canned air against the tip of my copic (I don't have an air brush system) I spattered a bit of grey (copic W3) along the bottom and right side. I then spattered some blue ink onto the card front using reinker mixed with water in a mini mister (rather than spraying, I unscrewed the top and shook some ink from the siphon tube). I stamped some chevron images in yellow gold and grey. For my spinner I stamped the small clock face in black, yellow/gold and blue. I die cut the black and blue images with standard circle dies and hand cut the yellow image since none of my dies were quite the right size. I also die cut a lacy circle from blue cardstock to back all of the images and to provide an edge for spinning. I had a set of black epoxy numbers that fit perfectly into the open circles on the image. A simple brad in the center and you have a spinner. After adding the rest of my sentiments and banner I popped the whole card front up with 3D foam to allow the brad to spin freely.

When I was thinking about this card last night I had decided that I would attach the 1" blue horizontal striped piece to my card base, shorten the card front by 7/8" and pop the card front up over top for some nice dimension - as you can see, by the time I put my card together this morning I had forgotten that I wanted to do that - oh well, it looks alright this way as well.

I used Seize the Sketch#10 for my card design inspiration, although I did miss the deadline.

Make It Monday #146 - Angled Backgrounds

Good Morning everyone and welcome to 2014! It's starting out a pretty cold one, a good time to stay indoors and craft. This week's Make It Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink is being hosted by Ashley. Check out her video tutorial here on how to use your scraps to create angled backgrounds. I chose to make my angled piece more of a focal point than a background.

I glued my scraps to a 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" piece of cardstock. After trimming the edges I adhered it to another piece of white CS just slightly larger. Using this piece as a guide I stamped my sentiment and stars onto my card base. I wrapped the center piece with baker's twine and a vellum star, popped it with 3D foam, added some pearls coloured with a copic and your done.

Papertrey Ink December Blog Hop - String Challenge Take 2

This is my second card for this month's PTI blog hop. I came across a You Tube video by Neen for making twine flowers - you can watch the video here. Neen shows a simple way to create flowers by wrapping string/twine around your hand. I took that same method but used my Bow-Easy instead which allowed me to make flowers of different sizes. As my flowers went down in size I wrapped my string less times - for example the flower on my card was wrapped about 22 times instead of the 42 that Neen used for a larger flower.

 

For my flower I used some household string that I had lying around. These flowers are fun and easy to make. Below are a few samples of different sized flowers, including some black crochet cotton. You can use a variety of items for your flower centers - buttons, beads - I used a wood shape that I coloured with a gold Krylon pen.

Papertrey Ink December Blog Hop - String Challenge

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you are all enjoying some quality family time. I was able to find some time last week to create a couple of cards for Papertrey Ink's December Blog Hop, which is to incorporate string into your project.

For my first card I wrapped a number of different colours of baker's twine around a spiral notebook die cut.

Make It Monday #144 - Heat Embossing Vellum

Hello everyone, today I have a card that I created for this week's Make It Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink. The lovely Melissa Phillips has created a great video tutorial that you can watch at the link above. I didn't need anymore Christmas cards for this year so I made a birthday card using PTI's stamp set Wonderful Words: Birthday. The heat embossing went fairly smoothly, however some of the detail of the fine chevron pattern on the stamp 'birthday' was lost with the embossing. For the rest of the sentiment I stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I layered my vellum piece over some pretty striped paper from Teresa Collins.

Make It Monday #143 - Modern Whimsy Style

I have been looking forward all week for an opportunity to play along with this week's Make It Monday - #143 Challenge. Danielle Flanders, the host for this week's MIM, has a beautiful papercrafting style that has been coined 'Modern Whimsy'. It is a style that I have seen a lot of in scrapbooking. I think it's a little more challenging to achieve the same look on a card, but some people manage to do it beautifully. It is a style that I have a difficult time with because I love things to be straight, so I tend to make more structured cards. I want to be freer in my styling but it is a challenge.  Not sure if I would call my card 'light & airy', but it does have lots of layers and detail and I am happy with how it turned out. I used the sketch STS#9 at Seize the Sketch, just flipped it.

 

I created a little pouch out of striped vellum that you can see a little better in the closeup below.
